Jennifer L. HennesseyAttorney
Jennifer L. Hennessey is an immigration lawyer and founder of our law firm. She practices exclusively in U.S. immigration law. Her focus areas include family-based immigration, removal defense, waivers and asylum law.
Ms. Hennessey initially began her legal career as a secretary in a Sacramento family law firm in 2001. She continued to work in Sacramento family law offices while she earned her paralegal certificate and became a paralegal before going to law school. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from California State University at Chico and went to law school at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
Ms. Hennessey was initially exposed to the U.S. immigration process when her ex-husband immigrated to the United States from New Zealand. Together, they went through the fiancé visa process, adjustment of status and ultimately her ex-husband naturalized to become a citizen of the United States. During this process, Ms. Hennessey experienced how complex the U.S. immigration laws are and how much hardship and uncertainty there is in having a loved one go through the process. During law school, Ms. Hennessey decided to explore the field of immigration law and volunteered with the Catholic Social Services Immigration Department in Providence, Rhode Island. During the internship, she helped individuals apply for naturalization and Temporary Protected Status (TPS). She continued to take classes and several seminars related to immigration law. During her third year of law school, Ms. Hennessey worked at a Boston immigration law firm as a law clerk where she became more interested in defending immigrant rights.
After law school, Ms. Hennessey returned to Sacramento in 2010 and worked exclusively as an immigration attorney. At the beginning of 2013, Ms. Hennessey opened her own law firm in Sacramento where she found her purpose in helping clients navigate their way through the immigration process and defending clients from being removed from the United States.
Over the years, Ms. Hennessey has become passionate about immigrant rights and often volunteers at various immigration fairs, speaks on panels regarding immigration issues and guest-lectures at local law schools on immigration laws. She has been very active with the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and served as the AILA NorCal Sacramento Liaison to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) from July 2015 to June 2018. She is also active in the Sacramento County Bar Association (SCBA) and is currently the Chair for the SCBA Immigration Section. Ms. Hennessey believes that a strong and close legal community provides better service to clients and local immigrant communities.
Ms. Hennessey is licensed in Massachusetts and authorized to practice U.S. immigration law before all agencies and federal courts throughout the United States.
